Eligibility requirements 

Students in grades nine, 10, 11 and 12 who are interested in exploring a career in pharmacy.

Program description

VCU Pharmacy Summer Scholars is a week-long summer program offered to high school students who are interested in exploring the pharmacy profession. During this program, participants will meet current students, tour the pharmacy school and VCU Health hospital pharmacies, conduct nonsterile compounding, strengthen professional development skills and learn about various career pathways in pharmacy. This is not a residential program; students are responsible for their own housing and transportation.

Activities include:

  • Hospital pharmacy tour
  • Nonsterile compounding
  • Career exploration
  • Professional development

Lunch is provided daily.

Commitment to full attendance is required to participate.

Applications will be reviewed to determine an applicant's interest in and commitment to a
career in health care. Interest in pharmacy is preferred. Thirty students will be chosen based on their perceived interest in a pharmacy career.

 Note: The Pharmacy Summer Scholars Program is only for high schoolers. If you have any questions as you are completing the application, please send them to us at pharmacy@vcu.edu. If you would like to apply for a program fee waiver, please let us know at the point of acceptance.

Space is limited in this program, so unfortunately not every student can participate. However, we hope to alert accepted students by early March. If you apply but are no longer interested, please let us know by emailing pharmacy@vcu.edu.
