Programming

VCU's Office of Student Engagement features programming and special initiatives that will enable students to get the most out of their time at VCU by helping them to overcome barriers to that success, and helping to poise them for success after completion of their degree.

While each program has its own distinct goals and benefits, all programs aim to:

  • Encourage students to explore opportunities to be involved within the MCV Campus,
  • Provide students with access to academic and social resources that contribute to their success in health professions/graduate school at VCU, and
  • Connect students with a network of health care providers and community partners who support our mission.

Considering a VCU Office of Student Engagement program? Programs are listed down below. All programs are subject to change if necessary and/or at the discretion of their respective coordinating body.

Gayheart Leadership Development Program

The Gayheart Leadership Development Program (GLDP) at Virginia Commonwealth University is a year-long leadership experience designed to help participants grow personally and professionally through interactive workshops and reflective practice. Facilitated by the VCU School of Pharmacy and the Office for Student Engagement, the program spans two semesters and includes sessions on networking, peer mentorship, emotional intelligence, negotiation, and other essential leadership skills. Throughout the program, participants engage in collaborative projects, build connections across the university community, and have opportunities to present proposals and ideas to panels of campus leaders, strengthening their ability to lead with confidence and purpose in both academic and professional settings. The program was made possible through the support of donors Nancy and Marshall Gayheart and celebrates graduates who demonstrate a commitment to leadership and community engagement.
